Hovhannes Tumanyan (1869–1923) is one of the most famous poets of Armenia and is considered one of the greatest figures in Armenian literature. He was born in the village of Dsegh (now in the Lori Province of Armenia) and throughout his life, he made significant contributions to the development of Armenian culture, both through poetry and journalistic work.
Tumanyan’s works primarily promote Armenian national identity, national values, and a deep consciousness of the homeland and its people. He is also known for rediscovering and reinterpreting Armenian historical and folk narratives in his poetry and literary works.
